Join Us This Saturday for a Forest Restoration and Honeysuckle Removal Workshop!

We all have a role to play in restoring native forest ecosystems.

No matter where you live within the Southwest Ohio region, the size of your land, or your ecological know-how, you can help reclaim our forests and sustain native woodlands. Join us this Saturday to learn how!

On Saturday, May 23, Our Land Organic’s founder and managing director, John Hemmerle, is leading a workshop titled Reclaiming the Woods: Removing Honeysuckle and Restoring Native Forest Health

The class will be held in person at the Cincinnati Nature Center from 10 to 11:30am. Tickets are available here

Join us to learn:

  • How forests across Southwest Ohio are changing—and why it matters

  • Why Amur bush honeysuckle spreads so quickly and how it impacts soil, light, native plants, and ecosystems

  • When and how to safely remove honeysuckle at every stage of its life cycle using non-chemical strategies

  • The philosophy behind organic restoration practices

  • Organic management strategies to prevent honeysuckle regrowth

  • What to expect after removal and how to approach restoration in manageable phases

  • Ecological landscape design strategies that mimic native woodland layers and support forest succession

  • Real-world case studies that highlight what’s possible, common mistakes, and lessons learned

John will incorporate perspectives from over a decade of experience in forest restoration, ecological landscape design, landscape architecture, urban planning, and more, with an eye toward building a future where people steward our landscapes in harmony with nature.

We’re thrilled to be partnering with the Cincinnati Nature Center to offer this class. The Center preserves 1,800 acres and 20 miles of trails including forests, prairies, streams, ponds, and wetlands.  The organization is dedicated to nurturing biodiversity and inspiring conservation through a variety of means, including educational offerings.
